Time for a change

The photo accompanying this blog features a clock of mine designed by Michael Graves, the distinguished American architect. It is a beautiful object and I consider it to be a work of art in its own right. Unfortunately, in common with many other architects like myself in the profession at the moment, it can not be said to be working to its full capacity. In fact, to many people with a deficit in aesthetic appreciation, or indeed with an unhealthy addiction to 'time watching', the status of this object could be considered to be a deep affront to their own biological clock. What they fail to consider or indeed to apprehend fully, is that artefacts and even occasional buildings associated with the architectural professional, fail at times to adequately function in a preordained way. Nevertheless, the best of these structures and even my simple timepiece, when contemplated over time, afford a deep and rewarding sense of their own intrinsic aesthetic merit. In fact, if you contemplate their situation long enough, the sense of pleasure is indeed so profound, that time itself can be said to stand still.
