Memories of John O'Donohue

Although John O'Donoghue died over two years ago in January 2004, i still remember visting him often at his 'Oasis' of tranquility in the wilds of scenic Connemara and the hearty laughs which accompanied all his conversations. He is of course well known for his wonderful books on Celtic scholarship and mysticism but I feel that anyone approaching his work for the first time should listen to his voice on cd as well if possible. He was himself an ardent fan of music and had a particular affinity for jazz and Roland Kirk in particular. Indeed his own melodious voice and gentle reflections on many aspects of lifes' challenges is imbued with the deep resonance and truth of pure jazz expression. My I end therefore, in heartfelt appreciation of a wonderful man and a life lived fully to its greatest potential, by quoting from part of one his own poems;

"The sound of his voice

Found for us,

A new Music

That brightened everything"
